On the MoMA Conversation, and architecture as art

On the MoMA Conversation, and architecture as art

The Conversation on MoMA’s expansion generated some memorable moments and questions (catch up here, here and here). Overall it was an enthralling discussion and an exercise in the articulation of some rather complex human emotions regarding the built environment. But three days later, there is really only one response that remains on my mind...

Professional photographs for DIGroupArchitecture

We’ve been trying to strengthen our in-house photography at DIGroupArchitecture. We have a lot of projects that don’t necessarily merit the expense of hiring our professional (Halkin Mason Photography), but still need to be represented in our portfolio. So after a ton of research we rented a Canon 5d Mark...

1111 Lincoln Road

1111 Lincoln Road

I spent a few days in Miami recently. What a crazy city. I had mixed emotions about 1111 Lincoln Road, a parking garage/retail space designed by Herzog & de Meuron that has received a lot of attention. I think those emotions come across pretty well...

Museum of The Earth, Weiss Manfredi

I spent a few days in Ithaca New York over the summer, and was delighted by Weiss Manfredi’s The Museum of The Earth. The building’s relationship to the site and the landscape were quite powerful. This particular scene, near the entrance of the building, continues...

AIDS Memorial Competition

AIDS Memorial Competition

This memorial is a graveyard for no one and everyone. It is a graveyard without names, one that conveys the disregard disease has for choosing its victims. AIDS can effect anyone. When it does, it forces a premature reaction to embrace one’s own presence, at which time...
Folly Sculpture Competition

Folly Sculpture Competition

Architecture and landscape are the same thing. When they are treated as such, the built manifestation is magnificent. Master architects often have such an understanding, so their work evokes emotion in much the same way that a powerful landscape might. The sustainability movement has created an environment of collaboration between architecture...

Intervals of Silence Bruder Klaus Chapel

Intervals of Silence Bruder Klaus Chapel

Inside this chapel time no longer passes in seconds and minutes. Rather, intervals of silence nestled between thick winds and the CLINK-BOOM of a large metal door handle. Varying colors of earth soak the walls, dancing and bleeding under the supervision of a small burst...

Boundless Claustrophobia – La Biblioteque National Francois Mitterrand

There is no substitute for the descriptive emotional power of something produced as a direct result of the relationship between the head and the hand. Communication by means of drawing, painting, sketching, and scribbling is an immensely satisfying endeavor; one that I will always work to cultivate.
